Who Was Queen Liliʻuokalani?
On January 17, 1983, Hawaii’s monarchy got overthrown when white businessmen forced Queen Liliʻuokalani to step down. Her kuleana to serve Hawaii and the Hawaiian people after the overthrowing was even more important. Although she didn’t have the power, she worked hard to replenish our culture and our lives. Liliʻuokalani as our Aliʻiwahine fulfilled her kuleana to improve the lives of Hawaiians.
By stepping up to the job in 1891, being the first Queen to ever govern the Kingdom of Hawaii shows how much she cares about Hawaii and the people. Her kuleana to serve Hawaii and to make our lives better was very important. By caring for us, she improved our lives by making us happy. If she didn’t care for us, she wouldn’t have took the job to rule us. Writing music can also show that someone cares for us. Her song “Aloha Oe” improved our lives because that song is a song that we still listen to right now. Queen Liliuokalani’s kuleana to care for us improved our lives knowing that we have someone to count on and someone we can trust.
Although Queen Liliuokalani did not rule for a long time, I think all Hawaiians are greatly appreciated for what she did and what she tried to do. Liliʻuokalani as our Aliʻiwahine fulfilled her kuleana to improve the lives of Hawaiians. Her kuleana was to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and make our lives better. By perpetuating the Hawaiians culture, she improved all of our lives. Under house arrest, she wrote one of the most popular Hawaiian songs and that shows her love for Hawaii and her people.
